Waiting For The Sunrise by Dave Keller VERSE 1 I didn’t believe you When you said you were moving on I came home to an empty house And all your things were gone Now I’m staring at the ceiling And I don’t know what to do I’ve got a bad, bad feeling And it’s all on account of you CHORUS Now I’m waiting and I’m waiting for the sun to come I’m waiting and I’m waiting Waiting for the sunrise Waiting for the sunrise VERSE 2 I guess I missed the signals Guess I missed the signs Guess I shoulda read Read between the lines I was livin’ in a dreamworld While you were makin’ plans Lookin’ back it’s obvious That you had another man CHORUS BRIDGE I study every star up in the sky I try to count them all I never knew how far I had to fall GUITAR SOLO VERSE 3 I may never See you face again And I may be lonely So lonely without a friend But I know that the night Has got to end sometime And I know that the light Gonna easy my troubled mind CHORUS OUTRO GUITAR SOLO
2.
The Truth Of The Blues by Dave Keller VERSE 1 All of this silence, is getting way too loud All of this violence, and you still feel proud Tell me where do you stand? Are you just part of the crowd? VERSE 2 You say it’s not your problem, you’re not to blame But what’s the story, behind your so-called ‘good name’? After 400 years, tell me where is your shame? VERSE 3 People crying mercy, can’t you hear? Or are you deafened, by the sound of your fear? I think the answer, is all too clear CHORUS What’s holding you back, from lending a hand? What have you got to lose? What part of kindness don’t you understand? All of this blindness, is the truth of the Blues VERSE 4 There’s a simple solution, it don’t take no time Turn off the pollution, that’s clouding your mind Then you’ll hear the sound, the nature of the crime VERSE 5 Believe your brothers, and your sisters too They’re just trying, trying to talk to you If you love their music, you’ve got to love them too CHORUS GUITAR SOLO VERSE 6 So stand for justice, and don’t you be afraid It’s time to deal, with this bed that we made Don’t just stand there, like a devil in the shade CHORUS
3.
789-0133 04:42
789-0133 by Dave Keller VERSE 1 If you find yourself, baby In a state of disrepair Baby, don’t you worry Don’t you despair You know I can help you Have yourself some fun Don’t call nobody else Don’t you dial no 911 CHORUS Just dial 789-0133 Baby that’s me VERSE 2 If you’re all in confusion You don’t know which way to go Take a deep breath honey Just take it nice and slow You need information And girl, I’ve got a ton I’ll answer all your questions, baby Don’t you dial no 911 CHORUS GUITAR SOLO VERSE 3 If you’re feelin’ hungry Broken down and all alone Baby, don’t you go to strangers Just pick up your telephone You know I’ve been waiting My work is never done You’ve got my number baby Don’t you dial no 911 CHORUS OUTRO
4.
My Time To Shine by Dave Keller VERSE 1 I’ve been hiding out How’d my world get so small When all I really wanted Was to shine? Ain’t no hell like the personal The deep down crowded house Of voices telling me To wallow Mud man slowing to a crawl It’s no wonder, after all Time gets heavy Pressing you down Feel the weight of history What will your sentence be? Who’s the judge and the jury Right now? CHORUS But I am pushing back Just like a weed Out of my need I am rising And when the world says “not this time” When the world says “go slow” I say “Hell no! It’s my time My time to shine” VERSE 2 All the broken little bits Begin to gather power Harnessing the past Into a pixelated flower My silence now at last Becomes a golden bloom A reverberating room A mighty tempest CHORUS GUITAR SOLO VERSE 3 You took your time Now take your temperature Allow the heat to take you places You’ve only dreamed of Where the fire feels like rain Fills you up to overflowing A sensing and a knowing Calling your name CHORUS GUITAR SOLO
5.
I Wanna Go Back To Memphis by Dave Keller VERSE 1 When we were in Memphis Everything seemed simple Everything was easy Baby When we were in Memphis You were smiling sweetly Sipping on that sweet tea Baby Walking by the river That ol’ Mississippi It was pullin’ oh so Gently, and Later up on Beale Street You were singin’ so sweet You and I now Baby CHORUS I wanna go back I wanna go back I wanna go back to Memphis Baby I wanna go back I wanna go back I wanna go back to Memphis Baby with you VERSE 2 Early Sunday morning You were still just sleeping I was waiting For that sun to shine I pulled back the curtain That’s when I was certain I was yours and You were mine Later after breakfast Everything moved so fast You and I were all about it (yes we were) It’s almost September Girl, I still remember I keep hoping That you’ll call, ‘cause CHORUS CHORUS
6.
The First Time With You by Dave Keller VERSE 1 I remember those last days Just like yesterday When it was torture Me and my old flame It took her so long To make up her mind She had herself a new man But couldn’t leave ol’ Davey behind I thought that I could change it Tried to rearrange it I was trapped and I knew it But still I let her do it CHORUS But the first time with you Made up for the last time with her VERSE 2 You see, I thought I had it so good But it was really so bad How would I ever find another love To replace the one I had? She had me wrapped around her finger Pulled that string so tight Would you believe we even made love On that very last night? CHORUS BRIDGE When she finally left I was so alone I was hurtin’ bad Right down to the bone But that’s when God graced me From up above ‘Cause there you were Just filled with love CHORUS SAX AND ORGAN SOLO VERSE 3 That first night with you Was really something else I’d never been with anybody So comfortable in themself You gave me love It was strong and it was deep And I knew right then That’s a love I’m gonna keep CHORUS
7.
Nothing Like Your Love by Dave Keller CHORUS There is nothing like your love In this old world This old world There is nothing like your love In this old world This old world VERSE 2 I’ve had lovers so sweet But the taste didn’t last I’ve had lovers so bitter Couldn’t let go of the past I’ve had lovers so protected Wouldn’t let nobody in I’ve had lovers so convinced That lovin’ was a sin And I know Yes I know CHORUS VERSE 2 You’ve got a certain kindness That never slips away You wake up on the bright side Each and every day You’ve got a steady patience When mine is wearing thin That love you radiate Comes from deep within And I know Yes I know CHORUS BRIDGE (INSTRUMENTAL) CHORUS
8.
Paint A New Life Together by Dave Keller VERSE 1 This room could sure use a new coat of paint Some would say a woman’s touch But after the last girl I loved I guess you could say, it’s too much You could say I’m scared to change After the changes she put me through You keep telling me that you’re not her And she sure as hell ain’t you I oughta believe you Some color might let in the light These walls are so faded They ain’t even white CHORUS So baby grab your paintbrush I love you so much We’ll feel so much better C’mon, let’s paint a new life together VERSE 2 You paint the walls, I’ll paint the ceiling You know I know, what you’re feeling I’ll paint the window, you paint the door Let’s try a little somethin’ we ain’t tried before Bright sunny yellow, red full of lust Some wild shade of green Sea of turquoise to cover that dust Something we ain’t never seen CHORUS BRIDGE I know you know what I say Is true So c’mon, let’s see What a little bit of paint can do
9.
Full Measure Of Pleasure by Dave Keller VERSE 1 Other men have tried, to keep you satisfied But they failed you Baby I’m sure, I’ve got the cure For what ails you CHORUS ‘Cause I’m gonna give you, your full measure Of pleasure (Yes I am) I’m gonna give you, your full measure Of pleasure (Yes I am) VERSE 2 Baby you know, we’ll take it slow Ain’t no hurry We’ll take our time, I’ll ease your mind Ain’t no worries CHORUS BRIDGE You know I’ve got you covered ‘Cause you know that I’m your lover I ain’t gonna leave you hungry No, no, no, no VERSE 3 Liers and leavers, fools and fakes They desert you Not one of those braggarts, has what it takes they just hurt you CHORUS CHORUS
10.
Mayor Of Memory by Dave Keller VERSE 1 + CHORUS I walk this town of shadows And I recall so much The doorways where we used to kiss And the way we used to touch You can call me sensitive And that’s all right with me ‘Cause I remember everything I’m the Mayor of Memory VERSE 2 + CHORUS I wonder if these streetlights Forget the things they’ve seen Or if the grass forgets the days When it was young and green All I know is that mind Will never let me be ‘Cause I remember everything I’m the Mayor of Memory BRIDGE Cursed by all the good times That glittered in the past Doomed to wander through this world Of love that couldn’t last When I’m gone, just rest a while Beneath our favorite tree Linger there, and say a prayer For the Mayor of Memory ORGAN SOLO GUITAR SOLO VERSE 3 + CHORUS ‘Til then I’ll walk these alleys Like it’s some kind of game That never ends, while I pretend You’re calling out my name The doorways and the kisses As far as I can see Yes I remember everything I’m the Mayor of Memory Yes I remember everything I’m the Mayor of Memory OUTRO
11.
Something ‘Bout A Sad Song by Dave Keller VERSE 1 Something ‘bout a sad song On a sad night Looking in your sad eyes And all of that sad light Shinin’ from your sad heart Right into my sad soul All of that sad hurt Takin’ its sad toll CHORUS I don’t know why, maybe I’m wrong But there’s something ‘bout a sad song VERSE 2 Maybe it’s the melody So sweet and pure That speaks to me ‘Bout how it was before Before you changed your mind And your heart changed too Before you put an end Lord, to me and you CHORUS BRIDGE Pulls me under Every time GUITAR SOLO VERSE 3 Maybe its the sad chords That make me cry Or the sad words That just don’t lie Maybe it’s the sad beat That moves me so Hits me deep And won’t let go CHORUS
12.
Hard To Believe by Dave Keller PRE-CHORUS Only now can I finally believe That you, you, you CHORUS You were in love with me You were the one for me I was too blind to see It’s true VERSE 1 Why was it so hard for me To think I was worthy of love? To let somebody hold me And think I was more than enough? As if I could be a person lovable in all the right ways As if somebody might see little ol’ me And still be unfazed PRE-CHORUS CHORUS VERSE 2 Looking back, I’d always assumed That for you, I was just a fling Just a brief stopover On the way to your wedding ring How could it be serious? After all we were talking ‘bout me Just a kid looking back from the mirror At a man I could never be BRIDGE And if I had the chance All these years later To say I’m sorry Sorry I made you Be the one to leave me When you wanted to stay I wish I coulda let you in But I pushed you away PRE-CHORUS CHORUS CHORUS GUITAR SOLO

“This past November, we gathered in our friend Laura's cabin in the Adirondacks, ten miles south of Canada, not far from the town where Orville Gibson was born. Huck brought a bunch of gear. Hundreds of geese had gathered on the pond by the cabin, and were quite chatty. It snowed. We ate meals together, played pool together, and recorded this album. We hope you enjoy it. Love, Dave & the Band.”

Dedicated with love to Brother Bob White, 1931-2023, Kansas City Gospel keyboard legend
